MinimizeAnother Great Season!

Thank you WIA Members and Volunteers!

This was an historic season at the WIA. With your help we made many improvements to the club and we successfully instituted our new mandate of promoting Sports and Arts as well as following the guidelines of our constitution to generally promote the interests of our Members.

Highlights for the year included:
One of the most memorable Gala Day Weekends in years. Old TImers vs. Young Timers Baseball triumphantly returned as did the masquerade, kids games, the Midway and music, music, music!
There were more island dances than there have been in decades including the debut of a new all island band - Eastern Gap and the return of the islands most popular band Hotazel! And of course legendary islander Tim Bovaconti ( and friends) graced us with his guitar playing genius.  Carol Bigwood and Sandy K helped open up our clubhouse to the greater community inviting great bands like the Latin Street Band and Kobotown tothe WIA. Then to finish off the dancing season right Dale Morningstar fronted a rock and roll fiesta for the Day of the Dead.

Brand new ArtSundays were a hit with 6 different artists providing instruction and encouragement on 9 different Sundays at Pay What You Can prices.

Kids Baseball on Wednesday nights was a favourite weekly event for kids and parents alike, as we all marvelled at the skill developement and astounding co-operation of our island kids.

Thank you all and...

See you in the Spring!

your el Presidente

The Ward's Island Association is a registered not-for-profit, community based organization that is commited to promoting island sports, arts and culture.

The WIA facilities (pictured above) are located less than 300 feet south of the Ward's Island Ferry dock at the east end of Toronto Island.

Over 360 WIA members have access to amateur sports activities including tennis (on the finest clay courts in Toronto), bowling and croquet on the WIA green (resurfaced in 2006), baseball, soccer and social events held weekly in the WIA "Big Clubhouse" that was built from 1937 to 1938. When not being used for WIA member activites, the clubhouse is available for rent to the public.

The WIA is run completely by volunteers from within the surrounding communities of Ward's and Algonquin Islands.
